What a Surprise!

Connor got to see one of his best friends for the last time this past week. He and Lucas have been pals since in the womb and now Lucas (and his family) is moving to Denver, CO and we're headed for Idaho. I love love LOVE to see Connor and Lucas together. The two of them run from the front door down the hall to the bathroom and back over and over giggling hysterically the entire time. Connor adores Lucas. They have so much fun together and I hope and pray that Connor will be as enamored with the new friends he'll make in Idaho.

That said, I imagine Caralee (Lucas' mom) is a bit relieved to be escaping Connor's influence. Connor taught Lucas how to open doors, climb tables, and who knows what else. Connor, of course, learned several of these tricks from Kevin and probably just felt like he needed to pass on the info. All the same, what would a play date be without one of these:

The boys ran upstairs to play in Connor's room. Five minutes alone was enough and we checked to make sure they were both alive when the banging stopped (why is EVERYTHING a hammer these days?). All were unscathed but after running up the stairs a fourth and fifth time to check on the boys I decided it would be easier to just herd them downstairs. With a baby in one arm and the baby gate in the other I tried to make myself as wide as possible (not a terribly difficult thing to do) and coax the boys to head downstairs with the promise of snacks. Connor being a couple months older and a bit more agile managed to skip down the stairs a tad faster than Lucas. I heard the dripping sound on the kitchen floor before I reached the last 5 stairs. I jumped past Lucas just in time to see Connor poor the last few drops of the new gallon of koolaid I'd made earlier all over the kitchen floor. Yay for little helpers.
Well, Lucas, I hope you took notes because we're getting a fridge lock and you're not likely to see this particular trick again! Be good to your parents, we'll definitely miss you.

Yes, most of those fun tricks were taught by my son...sorry about that. FYI, Connor will now pass on his wisdom to little Tyler and you will realize everything happens at a younger age with the second one. Just a heads up!

that posting made me more sad than ever. Lucas has such a great buddy in Connor and I in YOU, and we're sad to think about not having you with us in Denver, which will be in two days now! We must be crazy driving that far with a two year old by the way. We'll totally miss you both, even with naughty tricks in mind! :)
