Top 10!

Connor’s antics continue to not just entertain and amuse me but surprise and impress me. These are a few of the things he’s been up to in the last few weeks.

1. After watching me interact with him with our billy goat puppet, Connor proceeded to put the puppet on his own hand and in a sing-song mimic-y voice use the puppet to talk to himself.

2. We’ve been working on teaching Connor to pray since he was about 6 months old. I guess the pattern has recently set in that we say prayers before going to bed because Connor now folds his hands before each and every crib adventure whether that be going to bed, naps, or even just quiet time. Assuming it’s better to pray more than teach him to pray less, I indulge and we’ve become a VERY prayerful family.

3. Connor seems to have made a sudden discovery of the purpose of the camera in capturing his mischievous and oh-so-cute smiles and often obliges me by holding still and even smiling for the 3 long seconds it takes to go from pushing the button to seeing a flash and actually capturing a picture.
4. Apparently placing olives on your fingers, particularly your thumb before sucking them off and popping them into your mouth is a curiosity and interest innate to us all because when we were eating olives with our enchiladas the other day, that is exactly the activity Connor was focused on without encouragement, help, or inspiration. He was thoroughly enjoying every single olive as it went from his plate to his thumbs to his mouth. Scrumptious!
5. And fingers in the mouth aren’t limited to olives because Connor also made a deliberate attempt to suck every last ounce of strawberry jam off his fingers following his peanut butter and jelly sandwich.

6. I know this isn’t hereditary because I don’t even like the phone although apparently I did when I was younger, but Connor loves the phone and he will hold up anything, even if it doesn’t remotely resemble a phone, to his ear/jaw and say, “oh?” as if answering a call. 7. Mischievous, conniving, fun, plotting, and stinkin’ hilarious are all words that come to mind when I think of Connor’s laugh. You know what I’m talking about if you’ve heard it but he often blurts out a rather devilish laugh when enjoying a good game of chase, tag, ball, or just climbing on the couch and then racing for the blinds or the desk and trying to make it before I reach him to stop him. Clever little boy…

8. One of my favorites was discovered during a Sacrament Meeting at church a few weeks back. With a bag full of books and toys, you’d think Connor would be endlessly entertained, but alas he was not and in an effort to keep the peace I stood him on the pew next to me so he could face the family behind us and watch their children play with their toys. When Connor reached out his hand and grunted, they graciously obliged and handed over a “monster truck” slightly smaller than my fist. Having never really sat down to play with cars or trucks with Connor, you can imagine how stunned I was to watch him make ridiculously loud “vroooooooooom” sounds as he rolled the truck up and down my mother’s arm. I was informed by the father behind me that monster trucks, too, are innate.

9. Today was met with a new game he created all by himself. He gathered together all four of the balls we have, each a different size ranging from a very bouncy basketball the size of a swollen grapefruit to the neon tennis ball. After collecting the balls he stood at one end of the “dining room” (I use the term loosely for those of you who’ve visited our apartment) and threw each ball to the other side. Then he took a cool whip container he normally uses as a hat and collected the balls again, returned to his original post and threw them again. Who knew it could be so fun. Of course we ran into problems when he wanted to also throw his spoons, wooden pegs, cars, and other such toys. I’m sure if he could talk he’d just reassure me he’s warming up his arm. Good throw buddy!

10. Why is his preference to sit ON the kitchen table...or desk...or top of the couch?

Or stand there...?

My oldest wasn't much of a climber, but my second (not quite 16 months old) is enough of a climber to make up for it! She is ALWAYS standing on top of something! Sometimes even dancing!
