The first thing you need to do is get informed! Finding a financial planner or advisor you trust is difficult because as well-meaning as they can be, they still need to make money which means they need you to buy something. Personal Finance Guru, Suze Orman, said something to the effect of "You'll make the best decisions for your money because it's yours and you care the most about it." Financial planning doesn't have to be complex and you can do it yourself if you have the tools. Let's remember good ol' G.I. Joe who taught us that "knowing is half the battle." So read up!

I'm so glad you put this up, I missed enrichment night but wanted to go very much. I love the total money makeover by Dave Ramsey!
Hmmm....looks like a lot of good reading that could help me...thanks for posting these. Anyone you recommend to start with? ;-)
Actually from an intellectual standpoint, meaning once you get past the spiritual responsibility of managing our finances, I totally recommend The Richest Man in Babylon. It's fabulous and contains the core principles you need. If you didn't get around to reading anything else, I recommend this one. :)
